English’s practice is predominantly concerned with the meaning and materiality of the photograph. Often denying the viewer access in some way, her practice uses the juxtaposition of the intimate and the banal to create incomplete, yet suggestive storylines. The photograph acknowledged as physical object is in a state of play where meaning is unfixed, and the subject matter always returns to be, photography itself.

Photo documentation of the artists personal life has been at the core of her practice for over a decade, the last 3 years has seen a significant shift in the materialisation of works, away from straight photo sequences towards installation, sculptural works, and more recently, performance for the camera.

Ellie is a 32year old artist born and raised in London where she still resides.
